LATINOS PREPARADOS GOALS & OBJECTIVES
Latinos Preparados is an organization of people who are concerned with the community and its needs in time of disaster.
What we do:
- Before the Disaster: Increasing the availability of information in Spanish
- During the Disaster: Demonstrate and encourage calm, safe behavior during emergency situations
- After the Disaster: Facilitate access to information and available services and resources for the Spanish speaking community

- The importance of independent response: Life without "911"
- Making a family plan
- Organizing neighborhood preparation & response
- Knowing what to do if you're at work
- The children: Knowing the plans of your children's schools and childcare centers
- Survival: Tips to help you during the disaster
- Recovery: Types of Assistance that are available after the disaster
- Psychological effects of disaster on adults and children
- Promoting a more effective community response
ACTIVITIES OF THE LATINOS PREPARADOS VOLUNTEERS
- Free abbreviated classes offered in Spanish:
- First Aid / Home Safety
- Disaster Preparation (Information also available on training in English)
- Answers to disaster related questions by telephone or mail
- Presentations to groups, churches, and community centers
- Information offered through the mass media (radio, television, press)
- Education for the Latina Community on the local, state and Federal disaster relief systems and how to work with them effectively
- Victim advocacy and translation assistance for the Spanish speaking community after a disaster.
